Refine your personality.

It's been a while. I'm always indebted to you. This is Yuri.
This time, I would like to ask you a question about refining your personality.

In the field of education, the phrase “refining individuality” is often used, and I think it is becoming the two major educational terms along with “ability to live.”

Now, when it comes to individuality, in a broad sense, it is a characteristic or characteristic of that person, but what does refining it mean?
Speaking of my personal opinion, after all, there are no people without weaknesses, and it also means that there are no people like myself.
Pursue myself (I'm doing my best right now.) By deepening yourself, you will bring out flavors that only you can bring out. As a result, the more you chew, the more flavor comes out. It seems like the more you chew, the more flavor comes out from the side you chew. That's why I can't help but feel that aiming for such a person is to “develop individuality.”

My club activity, baseball, is off the bench. Studying is out of the question. The face is out of range.
When I let them talk, they often say they're loud... That's the kind of person he is.
However, there is nothing in particular that people can be proud of, but this speech is a part of myself that I like.
They say stupid things, say “I'm stupid,” and smirk at the transfer. I love myself like that.
Originally, I wanted to be an entertainer, so maybe that's how I feel.
“I speak a lot, Deb, Chibi, damn glasses, smart, good at sending bunts.” This is my personality.

However, since people around you say, “You talk a lot...”, there may be people who feel uncomfortable about it.
Even though I'm proud of myself, I wonder what to do by refining that aspect.
There are positive and negative aspects of “individuality” for individuals and society.
Even if it's negative, does that mean you can extend it?

So that it's a plus

Yuri This is Urakami from Nagomi-an.

individuality. It's a word I hear a lot, but I have a question mark attached to this word
For example, “they just tell lies and steal people's stuff” and “try to solve anything with violence” are personalities.
But I wouldn't call this kind of person “unique.” Generally speaking, I think characteristics that do not deviate from social rules and are positive for society are called “individuality.” Therefore, clearly developing negative characteristics is not recommended for living a social life.

Yuri says, “Baseball is off the bench, studying is out of the question,” but even so, I think the attitude of continuing to make an effort is a favorable personality.

Also, I think “speaking well” can have both positive and negative aspects. I think the representative person who talks a lot is Akashiya Sanma, but when I look at it, it's not like they keep talking without thinking about anything. It seems that they are grasping the situation, picking up various topics, and connecting them in a direction that creates laughter. They're not just “people who talk a lot.”

This makes you an annoying person if you don't read the situation, don't consider people's feelings, and just talk the way you want to talk.
Yuri's “personality refinement” is probably Yuri's “personality refinement” by including other aspects so that “speaking well” can be used as a plus.

Yuri looks like Zakiyama, doesn't she?

If you look at Yuri's remarks, it's similar to Yamazaki (Zakiyama) from The Untouchables.
① A substitute in the high school baseball club
② They are called Gaya entertainers, speak a lot, and are loud.
③ Even when appearing on quiz shows, the answer rate is poor.
Just like you. You have a good personality. Maybe they won't be hated at all.
However, individuality is also important, and if an entertainer starts to do things they are allowed to do, that personality may often backfire. It may be fine to leave it like this when you're a student, but that's not the case for working adults. There are various issues that occur when penetrating that personality thoroughly, but can you continue even so? Please think about that carefully.
It seems that the meaning of individuality is being used in a different direction in the world. When I was practicing ascetic practice, everyone woke up at the same time in the morning, did the same amount of zazen, and ate the same food, but everyone had a different way of thinking and looking at things, and everyone took a different path. Isn't this called individuality? What makes all the difference is selfishness and complacency, isn't it? Now let's all think about it...

They don't raise children, they grow up, students don't teach...

There was a famous monk named Fugai Honko at Kojaku-ji Temple in Asuke, Aichi Prefecture.
Three splendid Osho grew up under Fugai Zenji's disciples.
They were three monks named Ikudo, Kanesan, and Tanzan.
Osho Ikudo was a person who was passionate about zazen. Osho Ikudo said, “You're zazen zazen zazen. Zazen is the ultimate in Buddhism, which is the most important form of Buddhism. I was thoroughly instructed, saying, “It is good to use this kind of thing for zazen, and it is good to do this kind of state of mind during zazen meditation.”
Kaneyama Osho, who was an avid reader of books, said, “You study hard. There are books like this, read them. Strive to shatter the esoteric teachings of the Buddha and spread them to sentient beings in an easy-to-understand manner.”
Tanzan, who is aggressive and quick to fight, said, “You're a pretty aggressive guy, and the sect needs great people like you. It is said that they praised each monk without easily denying any aspects that seemed wrong at first glance, saying, “Thoroughly pursue what you thought was right.”
If natural enemies are excluded from tomato seedlings, it seems that 10,000 fruits will grow.
Just as Buddha also gave a sermon according to his opponent, as it is called an anti-aircraft sermon, it is recorded that Fugai Hontakazenshi looked closely at his opponent's abilities and qualities, and was encouraged to freely further blossom what the other person liked.
This seems like a famous producer in modern times, but it is a way of drawing a line from the turbulent attitude of producers and arrangers making extra changes and trying to own the rights.
It's an adult's selfish judgment, and there's no such thing as being presumptuous that is fine.
Ikudo Zenji is the first monk who lived alone in Sojiji, the head temple of the Soto sect, and his disciples are over 1,000 famous monks. Kaneyama Zenji is a famous monk who is very good at preaching and Dharma. Hara Tanzan was the first lecturer on the philosophization of India at the University of Tokyo.
They were raised because Fugai Honko Zenji nurtured his disciples in the same way as growing bonsai. Kazegai wasn't boastful like his current parents and teachers. The leading role wasn't just me; I was taught.
In Japanese education, it's easy for teachers to cut off branches that are unique and unique to students just like growing bonsai trees. It is nothing but the teacher's convenience.
This is because most adults and teachers are misunderstood about teaching.
If you had followed this kind of teacher, I would have grown even better, and if you were made a teacher, I would never be this happy for my students.

Understanding “good fortune”

Yuri-sama

This is Kawaguchi Hidetoshi. This is my humble answer to the question.

Focus on individuality, human strength improvement, self-responsibility, self-determination...

The trend of focusing on individual individuality, abilities, responsibilities, and decisions has certainly continued in recent decades, and it also seems that there is some kind of propaganda intention.

Of course, apart from good and bad, in the era of liberalism, individual freedom has been respected for a long time, so it is natural to say that it is natural.

However, since freedom involves responsibility, it does not mean that anything and everything is free and allowed. Of course, it is important to have the freedom to keep your duties and things you need to do exactly. Individuality is the same, and I know that it is something that comes with responsibility.

Now, how should we think about it from a Buddhist perspective, but this world is made up of “relationships,” and we are also able to exist in the midst of “good fortune.”

By taking a firm look at this living self and feeling grateful and thankful for the myriad “relationships” that make up you, you are required to cultivate compassion, care, and reward.

There is a possibility that the emphasis on “individuality” will lead to an emphasis on the ego, and adverse effects of falling into self-supremacy, self-expediency/complacency, and self-righteousness will occur, and this may only lead to hesitation and suffering.

No matter how good your personality or individual ability you have, if you don't have a position, environment, or people who can support and evaluate them, it doesn't make sense at all. For example, no matter how good your shooting skills are in soccer, it's completely meaningless in an age without soccer, and even if there is a soccer game like today, no matter how great and exciting a long shot you can score in a place where there are no spectators or players, it will end up just being complacent and self-righteous after all.

In addition to appreciating our existence due to countless “good fortune” between people, regions, nations, and the international community, we can also make use of each individual's individuality within it, and I think it is important first to understand that it is something that cannot be achieved by ignoring “good fortune.”
