The person who is possessed

When I was a kid, I remember watching something like this in a scene from when they were telling scary stories on TV shows.

I forgot the details, but when a person who sees ghosts or strange phenomena around you and is in trouble is walking around you, the monk sees that person, and are you okay? They talked as if they could see something possessed by them, and they did something like purification or memorial services, and it seems like that person stopped seeing strange phenomena or ghosts.

This story is from the person who posted it.

Not limited to this story, I see and hear strange stories that clearly depict things that monks can't see.

Does this actually happen?

A revolver out of bullets

I'll summarize the story as a monk...

There are people who say they can see spiritual things on a regular basis, and it seems that there are also people who can sense it after entering the Masamata Shūdō. However, although they are in the minority...

they know the true identity of what they are really possessed with

There are actually many people in the world where the expression “I'm possessed by an evil spirit” fits that person better than “I'm not doing well with my parents” or “my mental balance is out of balance.”
Even if Amida is called “Muryoju Muryangko,” I think it would be more familiar for those who don't get the hang of it to personalize Amida.

The worries that the person himself, who has darkness in his heart, has are sometimes difficult to say, so they dare to be possessed “in place” by a third party entity, and through the act of getting rid of them, they exorcise that person's worries and lighten their psychological burden.

Therefore, it has been decided that what should be exorcised from the beginning is emotional sorrow, suffering, and unspeakable trouble.
It can be said that monks who can see through it properly from the beginning and lead in a direction without hesitation, even in terms of mental health, are powerful monks.

A memorial service or purification also has one aspect of removing the hesitation, suffering, fear, anger, etc. that person has in their heart.

Even if you're not a fortune teller, you can tell if they're worried or not by looking at their partner's condition.
If you look at people's facial expressions on the train, you can see through those expressions what kind of state of mind they are in if you are a monk who is an expert on the mind.

If you search for cold reading, profiling, phrenology, etc., you may understand even more.

Things related to “possession” and “inspiration”

A revolver out of bullets

This is Kawaguchi Hidetoshi. This is a humble answer to the question.

Until now, matters related to “possession” and “inspiration” have also been dealt with in the answers to each question see below.

Similar to Mr. Tange Kakumoto's answer, I believe that the real problem is ultimately created by the sense of hesitation and suffering (ignorance, worry, bad work) that each of us has.

Anyway, when it comes to things like “inspiration” and “possession,” the issue of a “destructive cult” that takes advantage of people's anxiety, fears, and weaknesses always comes up, and I actually know we have to be careful.

Basically, I'm in the position that “inspiration” and “possession” should be treated as “unrecorded issues,” but sometimes there are cases where people stubbornly believe in it with the feeling that “it's too much to be a coincidence...” or “I still have to doubt it due to circumstances...” and there is nothing to be done about it.

In this case, first of all, as a convenience in getting rid of that anxiety, worry, fear, etc., of course, in formal purification and prayer practices handed down since ancient times, etc., they did not deny what they believed, then confirmed that they were in a state where they could be listened to, and finally gave advice on essential solutions, so suddenly “inspiration” and “possession” were made easy There are times when I thought I shouldn't respond by denying it.

I know that by achieving a “placebo effect” in a sense, it leads to peace of mind and stability, and there are cases where it is possible to quickly resolve or smoothly reach a stage toward an essential solution.

However, I understand that careful assessment is required at all times so that it does not fall under a “destructive cult,” and so as not to be fooled by a “destructive cult.”

There are people who can see and there are people who can't

Being a boy doesn't necessarily mean you can see it. There are probably a lot of people who can't see. There are people that can be seen even by normal people.
There may also be spirits wandering around because people have died and their souls can't go where they should have gone. There are times when people are possessed by such spirits. There may be times when such spirits do evil things, but this is not necessarily the case. But I have to go where I'm going. If you still have regrets about this world, you may not be able to attain Buddhism easily. I work hard every day, hoping that I can lead such spirits to the right path with my memorial service.
