Is it possible to resist instincts and desires

Instincts and desires cannot be eliminated, but they can be resisted.
Buddha said, “The heart is upset, turbulent, hard to protect, and hard to control. Wise people can fix this. ── Just like an archer fixes the strings of an arrow.” “The heart is hard to capture, rustles lightly, and peels as it desires. It is good to hold back that heart. He says, “If you calm your mind, it will bring comfort,” and he explains how to control the mind that tries to follow instincts and desires excessively.
So what can we do to control that kind of mind?
This world is constantly changing (various acts are impermanent), and if you understand that nothing has substance (laws and nothing), your obsession with things will go away, and your mind will not be disturbed by instincts or desires.
Even if you don't understand it, believe it's the truth and just try to understand it, things will change dramatically.
By the way, I don't know the details, but it seems that your instincts and desires go through repeated acts that you cannot tell others (please forgive me if I'm wrong).
If you are aware that this is the wrong thing to do, stop it right away and don't repeat it again.
Also, please make amends for past mistakes and pledge to do your best for people and the world from now on.
It's a harsh word, but there's no other way to gain peace of mind.

Nirvana Silence

I read it.
Thank you for your question.
It's extremely difficult to lose your instincts and desires as long as you live. If you're not a Buddha, you can't lose it.
If you know wisdom, believe in the truth, and can accept it as it is, you will be able to get rid of it; in other words, become a Buddha yourself.

That is Buddhist practice.

I think it is possible to reduce greed by believing in the Buddha and following the Buddha's path.

I think you can experience the moment, or rather the moment when various desires disappear while doing nenbutsu with one heart or concentrating peacefully in zazen meditation.

Greed springs up again after that, though. Even so, I think it's possible to reduce and control it little by little.

I sincerely pray to the Buddha so that you can live a healthy and peaceful life while accepting the future as it is. We wholeheartedly agree

Why don't you take a look at the heart behind you to see what makes you do that?

I also read the questions and profiles up until now.
Are you still bothered by past actions?

Instincts and desires also spring up unconsciously and naturally, so it's difficult to say that you didn't have the feelings (greed) that occurred.

However, if it's hurting you, why don't you take a look at the heart behind you to see why you want it and what makes you do it.

In individual consultations, questions are not disclosed, so don't worry. If something happens, why don't we face it slowly and together again?

Little desire and contentment

Thank you for your question.
It's impossible for an ordinary person like me.
Both instincts and greed are necessary in order to live.
However, greed is not bad; it is bad to be greedy.
Greed does not cause suffering; greed begets suffering.
To be greedy is to take more than necessary.
There is a Buddha teaching called lack of contentment.
It means being satisfied with a little bit of greed.
I want them to be satisfied just by having their instincts and desires satisfied a little bit.
If you do that, I think I'll be able to live a life with less suffering.

The merits of brakes that control by correctly explaining the reason why you should not do “admonition”

The Buddhist precepts are the merit of brakes.
It is the power to stop and stop both good and bad movements.
Bicycles, cars, and trains all have it.
Humans have it too.
Whether walking or doing something, humans have the power to control that movement.
The power to control greed and the power to stop it can also be brought out properly.
You should be able to use the force to brake properly.
There are various deterrents in the human world precisely because greed cannot be contained by brakes of intention alone.
Surveillance, human eyes, rules, laws, punishment, shame, compassion for others, coordination, a spirit of peace, rights, dignity, human rights, precepts... it is also important to respect yourself and others by incorporating these things into the self.
Above all else, you must have your own sense of reason.

Humans aren't bullfights or shamos 🐔 you can suppress them with self-control.

Even so, it becomes difficult for people with a rough temper to become emotional and run wild.
If there is a child in the school class who is a little annoying, it will put a burden on someone.
But if you learn it, you'll improve it too.
In the human world, it is important to respect the dignity and rules of life, and to properly govern and lead the mind. It's the same for individuals and nations.
The reality of neighboring countries.
In China, India, Nepal, and Myanmar, where human trafficking is carried out smoothly, atrocities and outrageous acts are being carried out that take people off their path because human desires have an advantage. This is because humanitarianism has a proper advantage at the national level and politics are not being carried out, cruel greed makes people go to hell.
As it is, such a cruel and outrageous act is “OK because it's greed?” The power to control the question is the heart of religion and the spirit of Buddhism. It becomes a spirit of improving humanity.

Since humans have desires, there are various desires, such as appetite, sexual desire, desire for sleep, desire for money, desire for honor, desire for survival, desire to wish for the happiness of others, and sacred desires.
But greed is energy.
Even if you can't get rid of it, you don't have control over greed, and as a result, making sure that you don't direct this self towards a dangerous mentality so as not to be swayed by greed, you will eventually lose it.
Greed is not because greed is bad; it is an act that harms oneself and others. All you have to do is control the trigger for the ignition that begins to run wild and explode.

There are people who get hurt because they use it the wrong way.
It is a person's superior power, proper humanity, and a sense of bodhisattva by correctly using it and leading to a form that makes everyone happy.

The degree of abstraction of the question

Hello. This question in short sentences seems to reflect some kind of wish “I don't want to write anything specific.”
If what is happening (specific) is paraphrased as “this kind of thing,” and “it is even more like this,” it becomes an abstract question. Your question is, this is a pretty high state.
So, the answers to that are becoming more and more abstract and general.
If this were the case, “instincts and desires come together,” but then how should I handle “going to bed when I get sleepy” and “I want to be the prime minister”? It becomes a question.
If the question is “I'm always obsessed with money, and I have savings, but I can't make use of it in my life,” there are ways to answer it.
“I want to drink water when I'm thirsty. I don't think it's a question of “I want to suppress it,” but unless you know what “instincts” or “desires” are bothering you, there's no way you can resist or answer it.

So, the answer for now is “some instincts and desires can resist a little bit,” but I don't think that listening to that will resolve your pain.
If you feel that they're at least “trying to listen properly” to us, it doesn't matter if it's “open only to monks,” so why don't you ask specific questions?
