I want to be freed from being hurt by the preferences of the person I like
I think this problem is a problem with myself and my own thoughts, who haven't been able to draw the line between themselves and others.
It's been almost 1 year since we started dating, and I've been suffering the same pain 3 or 4 times with my cheerful lover. Every time I did that, I saw “this is an opportunity to update myself,” but I haven't been able to get out of it yet.
Recently, I've started meditating, and I'm less likely to get caught up in unnecessary thoughts, and I have more time to feel satisfied without anything. Nevertheless, I experienced the same suffering again the other day, and I felt “I haven't been able to get over here yet.”
Specifically, while talking about actresses and artists that your lover has liked in the past, if you listen to stories of people you fell in love with because of their appearance itself, such as “I fell in love with this person because I like their face,” you will be deeply hurt later.
I've almost never fallen in love with someone of the opposite sex “because I like their face,” and I feel like people I fall in love with become the type I like as a result. Therefore, even if you can understand with your head that your lover has such “facial preferences,” there are parts that you cannot fully sympathize with as a feeling.
Of course, I fully understand that “my lover probably fell in love not only with my face, but also with my content and personality,” and “the type I like and the person I actually go out with are different.” Even if I get the same consultation, I think that's the first answer. So I'm not looking for such general answers.
I don't want to break up the conversation on the spot, so I keep it normal, but later I'm keenly aware that “I don't fit into this person's favorite face.” (Because the lineage is actually different)
From there, I couldn't stop thinking “why are you dating me,” “I'm happier if I go out with the type of person I like more,” and “I think it would be better for me to withdraw,” and it sometimes dragged on for about a week. Even when I look at photos taken together, I think “we are disproportionate,” and I can't even like myself.
I don't want to blame the other person, nor do I want them to change their preferences. I want to free myself from this suffering that is born every time as a result of this event.
In this way, how does Buddhism capture a state where the heart is hurt even though it is understood in the head, and suffering increases in a chain of thoughts?
Also, I would like you to tell me how to have a heart, thoughts, and practices to become free from there.
